We will meet in the Performance Hall today to support the other G10 students that are presenting their G10 Blind Dates Presentations - Drama Productions :-)
Today we will continue working on Create stage.
I am blogging using my phone using the mobile version of Blogger! :-)
I am sorry I am not at school at the beginning if the class, so please continue working on building your Robots.
Visit last class' blog entry to review the details and elements needed for a complete Create stage.
Why do think we move from Investigation to Plan, "skipping" Design stage?
Based on your Investigation, once you decide what your final product will be, you should start working on your Plan stage, defining what will be done when and with what resources.
Focus on the process of creation/building of the robot.
Remember to include:
a step by step list of instructions to build your robot (like giving very detailed instructions for someone else to build it for you!)
a detailed timeline (for the process of building/creation)
Today we will start working with Investigation. Get in new groups with people who youhave not worked with before, please.
Let's develop our guiding questions looking into the big concept as well as into our classroom activity:
What are Robots?
What can we used them for?
Why?
When were they invented/did it all start?
Who?
How?
How do designs vary for different purposes?
Developing our guiding questions we can work on our Investigation stage, develop the Design Brief, relate the importance of these devices in our lives, society and AOIs.
Once you have developed your design brief, complete the design specifications and remember to keep record of your sources in the bibliography.
We will be using Lego Robotics NXT 2.0 kit. You can visit online tutorials @ NXT Tutorials. You can visit the Essentials page to get started as well as the Advanced section for the expert programmers.
during Create stage please make extra detailed entries showing your step by step progress featuring visual evidence (screen shots, pictures, diagrams, etc)
talk about your time management and how you are following (or not) your Plan.
Do you ned to make any changes to your chosen Design?
Today please keep working on finalizing your 3D Maps: whole school and your tour stop. Remember that the product that you need to turn in for these Maps assignment, is the animation/navigation of your maps, showing the whole school and then "zooming" into your Tour Stop. This can be an animation, a movie, etc.
You can use the applications/tools discussed in class:
HyperCamcaptures the action from your Windows 9x or NT screen and saves it to AVI (Audio-Video Interleaved) movie file.
QuickTime: Capture video of what is happening of your screen and convert media into a variety of formats.
FRAPS: Performs video capture, screen capture and can benchmark your fps! (Thank you Tim for suggesting this!)
list of step by step (the lasts taks in the list should include:
posting your product online,
getting an URL for it
creating the QR code
printing, adding group names and laminating the QR code
placing it at the tour stop :-)
timeline
resources and tools to be used
changes needed?
Your Process Journal needs to have entries for all the classeswe have been working on Project 2 (aprox 8) , so you can have it complete by the time you need to turn it in for Create stage :-)
Today, we have better connectivity :-) so you will need to complete your 3D Map. Remember to use Top-down and Bottom-up strategies to make your 3D map of the whole school as our starting point and then "zoom" into the groups' school tour stops: Project 2 - G10 Tour Stops.
If you stil need to download Google SketchUp, please see me about it so we do not clog the bandwidth.
Please organize your group members' roles to start working on Design stage.
Include a variety of different designs/proposed solutions (at least 3)
All proposed designs have to be accesible using a mobile device
Explain every part of each ideas/product solution
For explaining your designs, please use different techniques like story boards, sketches, labelled diagrams with explanations, etc.
Evaluate each design critically against the design specifications (assess what design specs each design meets or not)
Choose one design to build
Justify your choice of design and tool/app that you will be using
Today you will need to work on your 3D Map. Using Top-down and Bottom-up strategies you need to make a 3D map of the school as our starting point and then "zoom" into to groups' school tour stop. You can use:
or any other tools that you may consider the best option for working on this assignment.
Based on your answers to Project 2 Activity 1 Form, I have listed the tour stops for each group in the List: Project 2 - G10 Tour Stops. Names and stops are highlighted in blue and red respectively.
Investigation was due last class, so if you haven't turned it in, pls do so today for 50% of the credit.
Organize your group members roles and you can also start working on Design stage. Look at Due Dates for Project 2 and plan accordingly
Carefully define your product design specifications as they will be the back bone of the rest of the project.. Investigation is due today. Look at Due Dates for Project 2 and plan accordingly. Based on your answers to last class's Activity1 Form, I have listed the tour stops for each group in the List: Project 2 - G10 Tour Stops. Names and stops are highlighted in blue and red respectively.Today we will have another Guest Speaker: Junior Student - Marsha Kubyshko that will share with us Google Sketchpad 3D Map creating. Exciting!
