G10 Tech Class #34

Following our  Due Dates for G10 - Project 3  Plan is due today.

Please visit last class' blog entry for details on that stage (step by step list, Gantt, timeline, resources, etc).

Please work on completing and submitting this stage.
Remember to :

Once you have finished Plan stage, you can get started on Create stage.
We will continue working on Create stage for the next classes.  Please see the Due Dates for G10 - Project 3  to plan when stages need to be turned in.
For Create  please focus on:
  •  having a very visually detailed Process Journal entry of the day working towards a complete Create stage.
  • talk about your time management and how you followed (or not) your original Plan.
  • Did you need to make any changes to your chosen Robot Design?

G10 Tech Class #33

Today we will continue working on Project 3: Robotics.

Please work on finishing Investigation today, and we will be starting Plan stage as well.

To review Investigation details, please visit last class' Blog post.

Please submit Investigation before class is over by following following the steps to submit assignments posted in the MYP Tech Website. Remember to Include the Assignment Standards.

Why do think we move from Investigation to Plan, "skipping" Design stage?

Based on your Investigation, once you decide what your final product will be, you should start working on your Plan stage, defining what will be done when and with what resources.
Focus on the process of creation/building of the robot.

Remember to include:
  • a step by step list of instructions to build your robot  (like giving very detailed instructions for someone else to build it for you!)
  • a detailed timeline (for the process of building/creation)
  • the resources you will use
Take a look at the updated list of assignments and Due Dates for G10 - Project 3.

Before you leave you need to make your Process Journal entry of the day.

G10 Tech Class #32

Welcome back! Hope you had a great Thanksgiving!

Today we will start our Project 3:  Lego Robotics!

Today we will start working with Investigation. Get in new groups with people who you have not worked with before, please.

Let's develop our guiding questions looking into the big concept as well as into our classroom activity:
  • What are Robots?
  • What can we used them for?
  • Why?
  • When were they invented/did it all start?
  • Who?
  • How?
  • How do designs vary for different purposes?
Developing our guiding questions we can work on our Investigation stage, develop the Design Brief, relate the importance of these devices in our lives, society and AOIs.

Once you have developed your design brief, complete the design specifications and remember to keep record of your sources in the bibliography.

We will be using Lego Robotics NXT 2.0 kit. You can visit online tutorials @ NXT Tutorials. You can visit the Essentials page to get started as well as the Advanced section for the expert programmers.
Other ideas and wak through resources could be found at: Lego Mindstorms Overview and The NXT Step blog.

You can decide what your end product will be: car, robot, crane, etc...

If you have not decided what you would like to build, you can visit NXT Programs - Project Ideas.
Other ideas/resources videos are listed beloww:

G10 Tech Class #21

Today, we have better connectivity :-) so you will need to complete your 3D Map. Remember to use  Top-down and Bottom-up strategies to make your 3D map of the whole school as our starting point and then "zoom" into the groups' school tour stops: Project 2 - G10 Tour Stops.

If you stil need to download Google SketchUp, please see me about it so we do not clog the bandwidth.

Please organize your group members' roles to start working on Design stage.

  • Include a variety of different designs/proposed solutions  (at least 3)
  • All proposed designs have to be accesible using a mobile device
  • Explain every part of each ideas/product solution
  • For explaining your designs, please use different techniques like story boards, sketches, labelled diagrams with explanations, etc.
  • Evaluate each design critically against the design specifications (assess what design specs each design meets or not)
  • Choose one design to build
  • Justify your choice of design and tool/app that you will be using
  • Look at Due Dates for Project 2 and plan accordingly.

  • Don't forget to make your Process Journal entry of the day!

    G10 Tech Class # 17

We will work on Investigate stage for Project 2.

Please visit last class's blog post to review the Project's overview, dynamic and more.

    Let's look into these:
    • who would the audience be?
    • what would they expect to get from the tour?
    • what stops/places are we looking into listing in our tour?
    • why?
    • what are the highlights of WA that you think should be included in the tour?
    • QR codes bring Museum tours to life (Article)
    • what application/tool do you think best suits your needs: website, video, animation, voicethread, animated comic, web book, etc?
    • If you choose the product to be a movie: what kind of movie should it be? (Documentary, informercial, etc)

Please post your answers to this Form.

Please work on Investigation stage today the lines of inquiry:

    • QR codes
    • different kinds of presentations used in digital supported tours
    • 3D map creating
    • etc.
Using Top-down and Botom-up strategies we will work on making a 3D map of the school as our starting point. Please take a look at these:
Carefully define your product design specifications. Investigation will be due next class.. Due Dates for Project 2 posted.

Next class we will have a Guest Speaker to address Movie making tips. Friday another Guest Speaker will address Google Sketchpad 3D Map creating. Exciting!
Don't forget to start your process Journal today!

At 11.10m we will begin with Project 2: Digitally Enhanced Tour of WA

We will work on making a 3D map of the school to start. Please take a look at these:
Let's start thinking about the following for our Project 2:

    • assign one stop per group
    • create a map of the school using Google SketchUp
    • have a look at the K-12 Education SketchUp Gallery
    • create a storyboard and script of what your video/stop will be about

    G10 A-3 TechClass #3

Please review the mind map assignment on the Design Cycle you were scheduled to finish and submit last class.

Let's take some time from this class to look into your assignments and make sure that the Assignments standards are included in your mind map as well as follow the instructions on how to submit your Assignments.

For our first project: Project 1, I would like you to work collaboratively in groups to Design and Create a product that will help the G7 students learn about the Design Cycle. Let's start brainstorming about what would be useful to them, why?, what shall we explain / teach by using your product?
